Ali Avila's Revenge: The Striker Who Raised His Hand Again in Liga MX

The 90th-minute winner against Guadalajara was more than a match-winning goal; it was the end of a year-long wait for Ali Avila. The 22-year-old Mexican striker, discarded by Monterrey after 11 goalless appearances and loaned out by Pumas after 3 goals in 24 games, has become Queretaro's main attacking weapon with 14 goals in 28 matches. But two conflicting stat lines — 4 goals in 9 matches with 809 minutes vs 6 goals in 10 matches with 599 minutes — remain unsourced and irreconcilable. Queretaro's loan-with-purchase-option model in July 2026 proved a smart, low-risk acquisition, yet no fee or clause details are public. Avila's production is heavily environment-dependent: he is thriving because he finally gets 90 minutes every game, not because his talent suddenly transformed. The 'revancha' narrative is fragile and could invert quickly if his form cools. With his U-17 World Cup pedigree and current output, he is a prime transfer target for bigger Liga MX clubs or MLS, especially if a senior Mexico call-up arrives. The real question is whether this is a durable breakout or a one-season wonder.
